Stamped Concrete
Decorative stamped concrete patios, driveways and entries from an Orlando concrete contractor.
Orlando Ronald's Concrete Contracting installs stamped concrete across Orlando for homeowners who want the look of stone, slate or brick without the upkeep of pavers. We pour, color, stamp and seal in one project, starting with a free written estimate. Call (689) 588-1438 or ask for a stamped concrete quote.
Stamped Concrete That Holds Up in the Orlando Sun
Stamped concrete is regular concrete with texture and color pressed in before it sets. A good stamped job looks like natural stone from a few feet away. The bad ones we get called to fix have usually faded to a chalky pink, the sealer is peeling in white patches, and the surface turns slick the second the sprinklers come on.
Florida sun is hard on decorative concrete. UV breaks down cheap sealers and fades surface color. Humidity and shade grow mildew. We use color hardener and UV-stable sealers, and we plan the color around how much direct sun the area gets.
How Our Stamped Concrete Installation Works
- 01Pattern and color selection. We bring color charts and pattern samples to the estimate. Ashlar slate, random flagstone, cobblestone, European fan and wood plank all get picked a lot in Orlando.
- 02Base prep. Same as any slab: dig, pull roots and organic soil, compact the base.
- 03Forms and steel. Forms set the shape and slope, with wire mesh or rebar inside.
- 04Pour and color. We pour the slab and broadcast color hardener onto the wet surface, or use integral color mixed in at the batch plant.
- 05Release agent and stamping. A contrasting release agent goes down so the mats don't stick, and it leaves darker tones in the low spots. The crew stamps in sequence while the concrete is at the right firmness. That window gets short in an Orlando summer, so we bring enough hands to stamp fast.
- 06Wash, cut and seal. Leftover release gets washed off a day or two later, control joints get cut, and the surface gets sealed with a grit additive for traction.
Stamped Concrete Patterns and Colors for Orlando Homes
Ashlar slate is a popular pick for patios because it reads as cut stone. Random flagstone suits the Old Florida feel of the older homes around College Park. Cobblestone and herringbone brick work well on driveway borders and entry walks. Wood plank gives a pool area a boardwalk feel with no splinters or rot.
Earth tones do best here. Sandstone, tan and buff stay cooler underfoot and hide the sand and dust that blows onto patios. Darker grays and charcoals look sharp but hold heat, so they make more sense under a covered lanai. We usually pair a base color with a darker release agent to get that two-tone, natural-stone look.
Stamped Concrete or Pavers for an Orlando Patio?
Pavers are everywhere in Central Florida, and they have upsides. Single pieces can be pulled and reset. The trouble is the joints. Joint sand washes out in heavy rain, weeds come up, fire ants move in and pavers settle unevenly over soft spots.
Stamped concrete is one continuous slab, so the only joints are the control joints we cut, and we hide those in the pattern lines. It needs resealing every 2 to 3 years. It can crack like any concrete, though the joints keep most of that out of sight.
Stamped Concrete Cost Factors in Orlando
Stamped concrete costs more per square foot than a broom finish. It takes more materials, more labor and a bigger crew on pour day. Pattern, number of colors, borders and total size all move the price. Small, chopped-up areas cost more per square foot than one big open patio because stamping them takes longer. We list the sealer and grit additive on the estimate so you know they're part of the job.
Keeping Decorative Stamped Concrete Safe and Looking New
Reseal every 2 to 3 years, more often around pools where chlorinated water splashes the surface. Clean mildew with a mild cleaner and a soft brush or a low-pressure rinse. A pressure washer held close can etch the color and strip the sealer. Sweep fertilizer granules off quickly, since many contain iron that leaves rust spots.
An older stamped patio that has faded or gone cloudy can often be stripped, recolored and resealed. Our concrete repair and resurfacing team handles that work, and a stamped overlay can also go over a sound plain slab to give it a new pattern without a tear-out.
Stamping comes down to timing. The crew has a narrow window when the concrete takes a clean impression, and in July that window gets short.
